
In 1997, she moved to the hat capital of the United States – Kentucky. Anne specializes in creating custom designs that put the finishing touch on outfits for all occasions – from horse racing events at race tracks across the country including Churchill Downs, Saratoga, Turfway Park… to galas, parties and church events.
In 2003, she became the first retailer in 130 years to sell hats on the grounds of Churchill Downs during which time her company sponsored the “Kentucky Derby Hat Contest”. For the past two years, Anne Sawyer has been the “Official Hat Designer for the Kentucky Derby Festival.” In her role, she designs the Derby Princesses’ hats, hats for the Kentucky Derby Festival Spring Fashion Show and attends many of the KDF events as hat ambassador. She offers a full line of headwear for ladies, gentlemen and children.
Anne is also the go-to hat designer for celebrities visiting Louisville for the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. She has designed hats for many celebrities including Ashanti, Mrs. Barbara Bush, Mrs. Laura Bush, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jamie Presley, Kelly Rowland, Jessica Simpson, Mrs. Peyton Manning, Victoria Gotti, Mrs. Dennis Hopper, January Jones and many others. The list is long and is a testament to the beautiful hats that Anne designs for each client.
Anne Sawyer has been featured on the NBC Today Show, in People Magazine, in The Lexington-Herald Leader, and The Courier-Journal, among others. She makes charitable donations as a standard part of her business to organizations such as the American Red Cross, Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, Old Friends, Bluegrass Farms Chaplaincy, Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, Riding for Hope, Grayson Jockey Club Research Foundation, Thoroughbred Charities of America, Hats for Hope, and Gilda’s Club.
She also sets up shop in Downtown Louisville at The Galt House every April to serve her Oaks and Derby clients and well as visiting celebrities.
